When interviewed this week by the Las Vegas Review Journal, Assemblyman Howard Watts insisted repeatedly to the RJ that any idea that the mileage tracking bill he sponsored and which was passed in 2019 and signed into law, (which is why all DMV tag renewals now require the mileage) would lead to a mileage tax are “absolutely false”

Unfortunately, like so many other things Howard Watts says in the media, records are kept.

When the bill was passed, Assemblyman Watts told the RJ “knowing how many miles people drive …would be useful for rethinking infrastructure funding which is currently dependent on fuel taxes, ” he said.

“This is the start of the process, not the end, ” Watts said in March 2019.
